My Laptop Touch Pad is not working

This happened twice to me so far. First one was with DELL Latitude D830 and latest one was with ACER TravelMate 2480. I am pretty sure one of my colleges also tried the same solution on Toshiba laptops with success.

SO all of these laptops have touch pads and for some reasons after installing something it just stops working. After trying a lot of options from control panels’ mouse option, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the touchpad I have found the simplest solution that worked, here is the solution:

  1. Shut down your laptop.
  2. Unplug it from the network cord if you have any.
  3. Unplug the power adapter.
  4. Detach the battery.
  5. Now press on the power button and keep it pressed for 30 seconds.
  6. Now put everything back and power up the laptop.
  7. Touch pad should now be working.

Well, this is not a super solution but at the end it worked for me few times. So I thought I would share it with you all.

I do not trust myself detaching the battery, however, i’ve fixed this before..I just cannot remember how.. I can’t remember if I fix it by Control Panel or what it is. Google is not helping the situation. I cannot remember what I have done. I hardly trut people touching my laptop. (Past related problems with people touching it) I have an Acer Laptop. Not new at all, It works well. I believe I disabled something. The touchpad. Does anyone remember or know how to enable it?
