I have been struggling with removing Text Enhance malware for over a month. No matter what I did, it seems to not work. Here are some of the methods I tried:

  1. Run Microsoft Anti-malware signature package
  2. Run adware
  3. Run CCleaner
  4. Run Spybot
  5. Used different methods of removing add on from Internet Explorer
    • Click the Tools button , and then click Manage add-ons.
    • Under Show, click All add-ons.
    • Select the Text Enhance plugin from the list of software, and click disable.

None of these worked.

What worked?

I removed CodecC from Add Remove program.

Here is a bit more details that may help you:

It worked! I couldn’t get rid of it in IE8, tried everything and then I found your suggestion, went to ad-remove programs, mine was names codec V, deleted it and now it’s gone!

Thanks for this page! I found Text Enhance on my computer today, but was unable to identify any installed programs which might have been the cause.

Disabling Shockwave Flash in IE did stop it popping up adverts, but that’s not really acceptable because Flash is a required component for some of the websites I visit.

The fact that Flash is facilitating Text Enhance’s operation put me onto a workaround which was to look at the Flash Global Storage Settings which you get to via this webpage:

And then uncheck the box which says “Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer”

That seems to have prevented Text Enhance from operating on two machines I’ve looked at, without having to disable Flash entirely. I don’t know if there’s still something installed on my machine – neither AVG or AdAware picked it up at any point in a full scan.

It’s installed by a company called JustPlug. It trying to push ads. It left a file called WxDFAST on my PC. I can’t get rid of the WxDFAST Updater file though.
